At Trafalgar

Division: Division 2 Conference: Conference 1
Game Number: 424 Game Date: 2007-07-29

On a cloudy early part of Sunday, not quite befitting a game of cricket, the two teams were involved in a kind of game that a lot of people imagine is a remote possibility, but don't think that it can actually happen. It was a game that SCC would love to remember for the rest of their lives and West Van II forget as soon as possible. SCC won the toss and put West Van II in to bat. The only two bowlers that SCC used, Sundar and Sohan, bowled with the precision of a vernier calipers, a kind of off stump line that would make McGrath proud. A couple of the West Van II batsmen tried to play their shots, but against such precise bowling, it was always going to be fatal. The middle order tried to resist, but as the Borg would say "Resistance is futile" and was. Sundar and Sohan made sure that the tail didn't wag and West Van II were all out for 13, possibly a record in this league. The bowlers got great help from the rest of the team on the field, especially from Vijay Kumar, who took three catches, one of which was spectacular. Sundar and Altaf opened the batting for SCC and finished the game in 3.4 overs, with Sundar hitting a four to end the game, a perfect finish to a perfect game, obviously from SCC's point of view. The game lasted all of 16.2 overs and 1 hr and 15 minutes, giving enough time for the SCC players to enjoy the sunny afternoon. West Van II players were very gracious in their defeat, and must be applauded for giving an opportunity to junior players. Hopefully they realize that this was a one off, bizarre game and move on. As for SCC, well, it was a much required win and moment of glory in an otherwise horrid season.
