On a partly cloudy day, SCC met Richmond III at Trafalgar in a must win game. Richmond III won the toss and elected to bat on a Trafalgar field, where the grass was so lush that there was a real danger of losing balls on the field, thanks to the strike by the City of Vancouver.
Needless to say, scoring runs was going to be tough and a couple of the top order Richmond III batsmen perished trying to go over the top. SCC's bowling just seems to be getting better with every game since they bowled Burrard out for 88 a few games back. Their bowling with surgical precision combined with some tight and at most times spectacular fielding made sure Richmond III did not get many easy runs. They snail paced to 64 for 2 in 22 overs, and considering the state of the Trafalgar outfield, it was quite sensible batting.
At that point Wayne Best, who had bowled four mediocre overs until then, had some sort of an epiphany and told himself enough was enough. Best went on to take five wickets in the next three overs with the help of captain Sohan Danyal's attacking field of two gullies and two slips and some spectacular catches. Wayne also had a lot of help from Himanshu Sohpaul, who bowled an immaculate spell of 9 overs for 13 runs. The last 8 Richmond III wickets fell for 13 runs.
SCC opened as usual with Sundar and Vijay Kumar. Sundar fell first ball to a wild swish outside off stump. Vijay K was joined by Vijay V in the middle and the going was tough, mainly because of 15 year old Manny, who bowled with the maturity of a test cricketer. Vijay K and then Himanshu ended up playing some poor shots and got themselves out. Sid joined Vijay V and they batted smartly and took the score to 65, when Vijay V ended up playing a lazy shot (mainly because of boredom) and got out, caught behind. Paul Harder didn't last long and was bowled by a beautiful inswinging yorker by Manny. Sohan and Sid then made sure that there weren't any further jitters and brought SCC home with 15 overs to spare, a comprehensive win.
