SCC's supreme bowling and fielding continued to dominate the proceedings and won them their fourth match in a row. Windies II won the toss and chose to bat first, with the clouds looming on the horizon, but fortunately, and almost as always, the weather network was wrong again, and the match proceeded without interruptions as the clouds cleared away.
SCC opened their bowling with Sundar and Sohan, who once again, maintained an accurate off stump line. Windies II opener Franklin tried to hit the ball out of the park, but was out to an immaculate outswinger, which produced an edge and SCC wicket keeper took a full stretch diving catch to leave Franklyn dumbfounded by the brilliant catch. It was pretty much the same story for three other Windies II batsmen, all caught by SCC wicket keeper Sid. When Sundar and Sohan finished their spell, Wayne and Vijay V took over and made sure that SCC remained dominant throughout Windies II innings and bowled them out for 67.
SCC was very relaxed thinking that chasing down 67 was going to be a walk in the Mackin Park. They chose to shuffle the batting order a little and sent Paul and Sundar opening. Sundar's poor shot selection continued for the third successive game and was bowled the second ball. Paul batted smartly, but did show a glimpse of the attacking Paul Harder by hitting a massive six over mid-wicket. Paul was soon out caught at extra cover, trying to go over the top. Vijay V and Sid steadied the ship and they took the score to 62, leaving six runs to win. At this point, five of the SCC batsmen tried to finish the game with one shot and failed, leaving SCC at 67 for eight. This was an important game for SCC and a win here would almost assure them of a 2nd division spot. A tiny bit of nervousness creeped in when captain Sohan Danyal walked to the pitch. Sohan, obviously didn't seem to share the flutters of the rest of the SCC team, and prompty and deservedly put the first ball away for a single, and SCC won with two wickets to spare. Windies II spinners, Ebenezer and Amritpal deserve a lot of credit for some good spin bowling. In the end, however, the game wasn't as close as the scorecard suggests, and once the score was 62 for 3, SCC's win was never in doubt.
